April Sunshine

It really feels as though spring is here. And it’s so much easier to have creative ideas. One of my new paintings inspired by tulips in the garden is called Spring in my Step – it says it all!

I’ve been busy creating new work and prepping for my first time exhibiting at the Belper Arts Trail. I’m really delighted to be accepted and am exhibiting at the Cariad Corner right in the centre of Belper. Fabulous initiative run by Steph Kelsey and great refreshments on offer at the cafe. Thank you for having me.

I’ve been further exploring cubism and some of the French painters of that era, for example Albert Gleizes, André Lhote and others. I do love painting about Andalusia and am planning a study trip later in the year based in El Borge – here’s a work in progress that hopefully shows some of my process.

I’ve also signed up for a three month course on expressive figuration with Martin Kinnear from the Norfolk Painting School. I’ve been learning from and playing with ideas from both Soutine and Kokoschka’s work, as well as experimenting with Gamblins Megilp. Glossy and very smooth flowing it’s super helpful in expressive work. Martin is really knowledgeable and also brave with his thinking – I very much recommend his courses.
